General Description

Ancestral Paradise

Olivenhain is an upscale, semi-rural community within the city of Encinitas. Featuring gently rolling hills, small ranches, and two-lane roads, Olivenhain provide residents with the feel of country living, while still remaining within easy reach of a wide range of amenities, attractions, and San Diego beaches.

Olivenhain includes everything from modest homes, to large country estates and horse properties, to multi-million dollar mansions. The majority of residences are custom-built and set on sprawling lots ranging in size from about half an acre to five acres. Although this North County community is not located on the beach, many homes enjoy ocean views.

Less exclusive and expensive than Rancho Santa Fe, Olivenhain retains a reputation for being highly coveted. Walking and riding trails meander through the neighborhood, and historic landmarks including the Olivenhain Meeting Hall, built in 1884 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, dot the landscape. The Hall is the meeting place for the non-profit Olivenhain Town Council and home to a number of community functions including the annual Oktoberfest, craft fairs, and the summer movie series.

Olivenhain is mainly a residential community with a few restaurants and neighborhood conveniences; the main shopping area is located along its southwestern border, while the shops and eateries of downtown Encinitas and Carlsbad are nearby. The lack of amenities right within the community adds to its ambiance and is actually one of its draws. Residents take pride in keeping the rural nature alive and appreciate being able to to stargaze; the town has some of the clearest skies around thanks to its Dark Skies Policy, which reduces light pollution by placing restrictions on outdoor lighting.

Olivenhain offers excellent educational opportunities within the Encinitas Union School District and San Dieguito Union High School District. Additionally, the community is an attractive setting for outdoor enthusiasts, with great biking, walking, and horseback riding trails.

More Features

The neighborhood is also home to part of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, which includes the dog-friendly, three-mile San Elijo Lagoon Trail. Horse lovers enjoy the Little Oaks Equestrian Park’s trail access, picnic tables, and arena, and the community is conveniently close to several popular North County outdoor recreation areas including Encinitas Ranch, the San Diego Botanic Garden, and the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club.

If you’re looking for upscale, country living that feels perfectly private but is just minutes from dining, shopping, the beach, and other attractions, Olivenhain should be on your list.
