General Description

Beautiful Samll Town

Pacific Beach is a small town bounded by La Jolla to the north, Mission Bay and Mission Beach to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west and Interstate 5 to the east.

Did you know that this community has long been populated mostly by young people, college students, and surfers? The trend is gradually changing, however, as the population is becoming older and more affluent due to the rise in property and rental costs. Despite changing demographics, the town still offers the surfer’s ideal: living near the beach. Residents of “P.B.” (the town’s affectionate local nickname) can spend their days surrounded by sun and sand. All locations within this beautiful town are within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean.

Pacific Beach was developed during the nineteenth-century boom years of 1886-1888 by D.C Reed, Charles W. Pauley, O. S Hubbell, A.G Gassen, and R.A Thomas. By the 1950s, the population of the city had reached 30,000, and in the 1960s, many new development projects were executed, such as the construction of Hilton hotels and the Islandia Vacation Village. This was also the period when the famous San Diego Sea World opened up just a few miles from Pacific Beach.

Today, PB residents enjoy the town’ popular nightlife scenes as well as its laidback beach bars – some of the most famous in San Diego. The town is so lively that is sometimes has a resort feel, but the more than 1,300 businesses also make it a great site for year-round living.

Though it has plenty of its own beach and waterfront land, Pacific Beach also borders Mission Bay Park, the largest human-made water park in the United States at over 4,000 acres. In addition, it’s close to the site of San Diego Sea World, which covers 27 miles of shoreline. Pacific Beach is home to the popular Pacific Beach Recreation Center and Kate Sessions Park. Southern California’s exciting surf culture can be found on display in Pacific Beach; in fact, Tourmaline Surf Park is marked for surfers only. The park is a perfect destination for experts and novices alike.

One of the beaches that families tend to prefer is the North Pacific Beach, which is a calmer stretch of sand, featuring life-guard-supervised swimming areas as well as beach facilities at the end of Law and Diamond Streets.

The schools in the Pacific Beach are under the San Diego Unified School District; they include Mission Bay Senior High School and Pacific Beach Middle School. You’ll also find several higher education institutions within or near PB, which explains why the community is densely populated with college students and young people. These include satellite campuses for University of San Diego and the University of California, Point Loma Nazarene University, and San Diego State University.

More Features

Additional popular activities in Pacific Beach include fishing on Crystal Pier, watching the sun set into the Pacific Ocean, and having breakfast at the locally beloved Kono’s Café, which you will find at the end of Garnet Ave. In other words, you’ll be able to enjoy good food and a local vibe at any time of the year!

Do you want to experience gorgeous Pacific views with cool ocean breezes? Maybe you’re in search of a San Diego community that offers fun activities in a relaxed atmosphere. You will find the perfect answers to your recreational and housing needs in Pacific Beach—the community has all it takes to make your daily life sunny and enjoyable.
