The Strand: Community in the Pacific
Mission Beach, also known as “the Strand,” is a thriving San Diego community constructed on a sandbar between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Strand spans about two miles of oceanfront. It’s bounded on the south by the San Diego River estuary, on the north by Pacific Beach, and on the east by Mission Bay Park. On the ocean and bay sides of the community, a boardwalk runs along the beaches and offers stunning coastal views
Mission Beach is divided into North Mission, South Mission, and a peninsula. A good number of residential structures in Mission Beach were actually constructed in the 1930s and 40s as summer cottages.
