General Description

Mission Hills: The Great Choice

Mission Hills is one of the most close-knit communities in the San Diego area. Positioned close to the intersection of Interstates 5 and 8, the neighborhood offers residents and visitors quick and easy access in both the north-south and the east-west direction. The community is only a few miles north of downtown San Diego and overlooks San Diego Bay. Although Mission Hills is a small community, its residents enjoy quick access to amenities across the city.

If you’re interested in settling down in San Diego, then you’ll need to search for a neighborhood that suits your lifestyle. Mission Hills is a great choice for a community that prioritizes residential living and community support.

So, why is the community a perfect location for you to consider making a real-estate purchase in?

The first key reason is its location: Mission Hills is conveniently situated and offers residents stunning views of San Diego Bay and Old Town. The majority of residents actually drive to work from this community north of downtown; in fact, according to Neighborhood Scout, the average commute is just fifteen to thirty minutes. Residents are also free to use available public transportation options.

Another good reason why this neighborhood is a perfect place to live in is the architectural designs, especially for lovers of historic homes. The community is known for its collection of well-maintained and painstakingly restored homes. Over 320 of the homes in this neighborhood have actually been honored as designated historic homes. Most of the architectural masterpieces that were built by early century architects are still standing. There are two dedicated historic districts in Mission Hills: the Mission Hills Historic District and the Fort Stockton Line Historic District.

The preservation of all the historic home types—bungalow, prairie school, Craftsman, Mission Revival, Spanish revival, and Colonial revival—is handled by a local organization, the Mission Hills Heritage.

One of the most exciting things about Mission Hills is that even when you’re no longer at the office, all the amenities you need are within walking distance. (This explains why the area was given a 70 percent walkability score by Redfin!) The business districts have popular watering holes, and many restaurants line West Washington Street from Hillcrest and Goldfinch Street. There are several boutiques, salons, grocery stores, eateries, and museums in Mission Hills. Music lovers can visit one of San Diego’s last independent music shops here.

More Features

Although Mission Hills has a sophisticated vibe, it’s still a family-friendly neighborhood. The Francis Parker School highly regarded private institution located right in the neighborhood, which was founded in 1912. The onnly public elementary school in the community is the Ulysses S. Grant Elementary School, which serves grades K-8. Since there is no public high school in Mission Hills, students have the option of attending either San Diego High School or Point Loma High School.

There are other family-friendly opportunities in Mission Hills—like the annual 4th July celebration hosted by the Pioneer Park, and lots of holiday celebrations, which often feature food trucks, family activities, and live music.

If you’re searching for a community that offers convenient access to amenities across the city alongside residential safety, walkability, and history, Mission Hills is an excellent option to consider.
